October is National Apple Month. Here are 10 interesting facts about apples:

  1. Apples are red, green, and yellow in color.
  2. It takes 2 lbs. of apples to make one 9-inch pie.
  3. 2,500 varieties of apples are grown in the United States.
  4. 7,500 varieties of apples are grown throughout the world.
  5. Apples are fat, sodium, and cholesterol free.
  6. A medium apple is about 80 calories.
  7. One apple has five grams of fiber.
  8. The apple variety ‘Red Delicious' is the most widely grown in the United States.
  9. One of George Washington's hobbies was pruning his apple trees.
  10. It takes about 36 apples to create one gallon of apple cider.
